Traditional Thai Massage

Traditional Thai massage is an ancient system of healing with its roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhist spiritual practice. This unique and complete system of Yoga therapy combines rhythmic massage, acupressure, gentle twisting, deep stretching and meditation in a flowing harmonious full body massage.

By incorporating deep muscle work, acupressure and meridian work and exquisite yoga like stretches within the massage, it means that specific problems can be addressed and the whole body is balanced. This releases powerful healing forces which ease pain and stress and you leave feeling energised, relaxed and usually taller! Traditional Thai Massage is a fully clothed massage carried out on a comfortable mat on the floor.

What to expect:

There is no oil used in a Thai Massage, so you can remain fully clothed throughout. You should wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing and avoid heavy meals and alcohol 2 hours before your treatment. 

Thai Massage is a floor massage, so expect to lie fully dressed on a futon mattress on the floor. As you lie on your back your therapist starts working on your feet with a gentle rocking motion from one side to the other using palm pressure. The combination of the gentle rocking and rhythmical pressure during a thai massage can often induce a meditative state and may even make you lose track of time.

As the massage continues the whole body is carefully moved, loosened and stretched, working on the entire musculo-skeletal system to release tension and open the energy channels. The therapist will use their thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees as they work on your body, but often you will be unaware as you will be in a blissful state of deep relaxation. Thai massage uses deep progressive pressure applied slowly, so your body is able to relax into the technique or stretch and therefore receive the enormous therapeutic benefit from this unique type of massage.

Indonesian Massage

This unique and powerful oil massage originates from the spice islands of Indonesia, and has been handed down through generations to balance the body and restore vitality. 

Deep tissue massage is combined with palm work to ease tension in the body and meridians are worked to balance the body’s intrinsic energy, afterwards you will feel refreshed, energised and balanced. 

This is the perfect choice if you wish to have long, strong and firm massage techniques, and to boost poor circulation and low energy. It incorporates firm fluid and rhythmic movements designed to remove tension from the body and soothe and smooth out overworked muscles. Combining stretches and pulls, manipulations and twists from Thai massage makes this an all over MOT for your body.

Indonesian massage is an oil massage carried out on a couch. (Not for the faint-hearted!)

The Dorn Method

A gentle and very effective treatment for common back and joint pain developed in Germany over 35 years ago.

Dorn is extremely safe and involves no clicking or crunching of joints. It works with both the therapist and patient working together to provide maximum benefit. 

The Dorn Method can be used as a standalone one hour treatment including a back massage or in conjunction with other bodywork treatments.

Eastern Bamboo Method

Warm Bamboo Massage is a unique penetrating, deep tissue oil massage. Using natural bamboo canes, they are heated and applied to the skin to knead and roll out knots and relax tense muscles. The Bamboo pieces are specially designed so all areas of the body can be accessed and treated effectively.

This massage can be adapted to address particular problem areas and allows for deeper application of pressure for those who prefer a stronger massage.

Thai Herbal Compress Method

For centuries the Thai people have used herbs to treat different ailments in the body. One of the best ways to relax and treat muscle pain is by using warm herbal compresses. Historically, this treatment was used on soldiers returning from battle to aid with inflammation from wounds and injuries and soothe tired and achy muscles. 

If you feel a little battle weary after a long week at work then this is the perfect choice for you.

The combination of the heat, herbs and massage has the following effects;

Reduces tension through heat and aromatic properties of the herbs

Deep relaxation of muscle and nerve fibres (helps relieve chronic pain arising from overuse injuries)

Softens and nourishes the skin (many herbs are nourishing, exfoliating and restorative)

Eases respiration through the use of aromatic herbal vapours

Improves the circulation as the massage and heat dilates the blood vessels enabling them to work more efficiently

Aids the elimination of toxins and waste products through increased lymphatic circulation and detoxification provided by heat, herbs and massage

Except for those with the usual conditions that would contraindicate any kind of massage, my treatments are tailored to suit your individual needs. If in doubt as to your suitability for massage please check with your GP. 

In the case of the oil and compress treatments please advise me if you have any sensitivities or allergies to heat or particular oils or herbs.
